Artist Spotlight: John Robertson

John Robertson is the sort of artist that’s rare in the world of Sports Art: an impressionist.  Since the passing of the venerated expressionist LeRoy Neiman, few painters have taken up the mantle of non-realist art.  The intensely expressive acrylic paintings of Robertson may do just that.

Mr. Robertson was a senior executive at a retail corporation for over twenty years before leaving his job in order to pursue his passion.  Since then, he’s made a name for himself as one of the most commission artists in the world of Sports, painting for such diverse outlets as Major League Baseball, Fox Sports, international and domestic sports arenas like the Amway Center and Prudential CEnter, private venues, and featured in ad campaigns for NBA games.  Mr. Robertson is so in-demand, it’s a wonder he has time to sleep.

The style of John’s painting is loose and free.  Allowing the painting to take shape on its own, he prefers to let go of precision and allow the imperfections form the heart of the canvas, allowing dripping and running paint to create the expressiveness of the pieces.
